Academic Honors Seminar (1 hour of credit per semester; may be repeated to a maximum of 8 credit hours). Provides the College's most academically talented students with experiences to accomplish the goals of the Honors Program. Course is graded on a pass-fail basis. Mining Engineering Technology
MIET Fall Term 2026 Mine Plant Technology (MIET-303-001)
Course Description: A study of the principles of pumping, hydraulics, hoisting, electrical power distribution, machinery maintenance, material handling and sinking shafts.
Students will undertake an approved project related to mining engineering incorporating one or more of the subject principles (pumping, hydraulics, hoisting, electrical power distribution, machinery maintenance, material handling, sinking shafts, etc.). Reports will be generated and submitted each week as the project progresses culminating in a full account of all events from conception to operation.
Reporting will include selection, planning, engineering, design, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and review. Weekly report sections can vary in length and content and should include a full description of all activities conducted by the student related to the project.
Students are encouraged to participate in actual field projects and technology application with industry partners at active mining or industrial sites.

Week 2: Initial project description and plan.
Week 3: Preliminary planning and engineering.
Week 4: Engineering and design.
Week 5: Engineering and design (2).
Week 6: Engineering and design (3).
Week 7: Design approval and fabrication/construction.
Week 8: Mid-term project report.
Week 9: Fabrication/construction supervision.
Week 10: Fabrication/construction supervision (2).
Week 11: Fabrication/construction supervision (3).
Week 12: Project completion/commissioning.
Week 13: Project completion/commissioning (2).
Week 14: Project completion/commissioning (3).
Week 15: Project implementation review.
Week 16: Final project report.
*1 credit hour assignment in existing course in which Honors Scholar Jacob Myers is enrolled.
*Student shall prepare and present the project in a formal in-person setting at both the mid-term and final report stages. Audience members may include industry sponsors, BSU faculty and staff, student peers, project owners, and technology providers.
*Student will conduct a Q&A session with audience members immediately following the presentation and implement audience feedback in the ongoing project work and final report.
